ADELAIDE SCHOOL RECEIVES FUNDS FOR SECURITY
9 October 2009
Minister for Home Affairs Brendan O’Connor today announced funding of $300,000 for Massada College in Glenside, Adelaide under the Australian Government’s $20 million Secure Schools Program.
“This grant will enable Massada College to install alarms and CCTV as well as upgrade its fencing,” Mr O’Connor said.
The Secure Schools Program is designed to help government and non-government schools meet their particular security needs.
“All Australian students should feel safe at school and be able to learn in an environment free from fear,” Mr O’Connor said.
“The security upgrades to be carried out by Massada College will help to further protect its students.”
This grant is part of a rolling announcement of grants under the first funding round.
“Measures such as these will help schools with identified security issues to better protect children from potential harm,” Mr O’Connor said.
“I will shortly be asking my State and Territory colleagues to identify and nominate schools to be considered for the next funding round.”
The process for identifying schools includes consultation between State and Territory Attorneys-General, Police Ministers and Education Ministers.
It is expected that the next funding round will open before the end of the year.
