NATIONAL CAPITAL AUTHORITY MEMBERS APPOINTED

Minister for Home Affairs, Brendan O’Connor, today announced the appointment of two new part-time members of the National Capital Authority, Ms Shelley Penn and Ms Christine Storry, commencing on 1 January 2010.
"Ms Penn and Ms Storry have extensive experience in architecture and design; skills which will be highly relevant to the work of the Authority," Mr O’Connor said.
Ms Penn is the current Associate Victorian Government Architect, the Deputy Chair of the Heritage Council of Victoria and a Board Member on the Linking Melbourne Authority.
Ms Storry has extensive experience in architecture, design and teaching and is a former councillor for the National Trust in Queensland.
"I congratulate Ms Penn and Ms Storry on their appointments and welcome their contribution to the work of the Authority," the Minister said.
Ms Penn has been appointed for five years and Ms Storry for three years. The Minister has staggered the appointments to ensure in future no two member positions become vacant at the same time.
The National Capital Authority is an Australian Government statutory authority and is established under the Australian Capital Territory (Planning and Land Management) Act 1988.
Short biographies of Ms Shelley Penn and Ms Christine Storry are provided below.
Shelley Penn
Shelley Penn is a Melbourne-based architect whose work has been published, awarded, and exhibited nationally and internationally. Her work includes advice to government and the private sector on design matters for numerous developments and public places across a range of scales. Shelley is a member of the Heritage Council of Victoria and the Architects Registration Board of Victoria. She is a Fellow and nationally elected Councillor of the Australian Institute of Architects. In December 2005 she was appointed Associate Victorian Government Architect within the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Victoria. This role is focussed on providing strategic advice to government about architecture and urban design, and on advocacy for better outcomes throughout Victoria’s built environment. She was recently appointed to the board of the Linking Melbourne Authority which is charged with delivery of a number of major transport projects for Victoria.
Christine Storry
Christine Storry has sixteen years’ experience in architecture, design and teaching. Her work has spanned academia, the public sector, private enterprise and community organisations. She has been awarded Bachelor qualifications in Architecture, Interior Design and Applied Science (Built Environment) and is currently undertaking a Masters of Architecture. As an Architect, Christine has been committed to research into design excellence, heritage and sustainability. Christine is a former councillor for the National Trust in Queensland. Her experience with the National Trust involved enhancing and promoting a greater awareness of natural and built heritage values to the public. She is a regular contributor to discussions in landscape architecture, including design, heritage and sustainability issues.
