AUSTRAC CEO APPOINTED TO SENIOR ROLE

The Minister for Home Affairs Bob Debus has welcomed the appointment of AUSTRAC CEO Neil Jensen as the Chair of an international forum set up to fight money laundering and counter-terrorism financing.

“I congratulate Mr Jensen on today’s announcement. He’s provided strong leadership at AUSTRAC for six years and has been instrumental in implementing Australia’s response to reforms in this area.

“The appointment is recognition of Mr Jensen’s reputation in the international AML/CTF community and the efforts being made by Australia to tackle these types of crimes.”

Mr Jensen has been appointed as Chair of the Egmont Committee for 12 months, vacating his current role of Co-Vice Chair.

The Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units is an international consortium comprising 106 member FIUs. It provides a forum to improve cooperation in the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing and aims to foster the implementation of domestic programs.

The Egmont Committee serves as a consultative and coordination mechanism for the Egmont Group.

AUSTRAC is Australia’s financial intelligence unit and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulator.

Mr Jensen has worked at AUSTRAC for 18 years and led the agency as Chief Executive Officer since September 2002.
