RELEASE OF THE AUSTRALIAN CRIME COMMISSION'S ANNUAL REPORT
The Australian Crime Commission’s (ACC) Annual Report 2006-07 has revealed significant results in investigations and intelligence operations aimed at disrupting and dismantle organised crime syndicates in Australia.
The Minister for Home Affairs, Bob Debus tabled the ACC’s Annual Report in Parliament and said it demonstrates the ACC’s commitment and focus in impacting on serious organised crime across the country.
“Over the 2006-07 financial year, the ACC continued to make a solid contribution to the fight against significant organised crime,” Mr Debus said.
“In particular the agency has delivered unparalleled levels of criminal intelligence to Federal, State and Territory law enforcement agencies,” he said.
During the reporting period the ACC:
- disrupted 51 serious organised crime groups or significant organised criminal identities
- seized $1,562 million in drugs
- saw $12 million proceeds of crime restrained or forfeited
“The results achieved by the ACC in 2006-07 are a consequence of the skills, professionalism and dedication of all agency staff,” Mr Debus said.
“The ever-changing criminal environment will bring new challenges for the ACC but I am confident strong partnerships between the ACC and its partner agencies will allow it to successfully confront the challenges of modern criminality,” he said.
